Frances 29th April 2009

When Mum (Lily) passed away it was Sunday 19th April and this date will always be with me and never be forgotten for as long as I live as it was the day before my Birthday, I arrived at the hospital around 10:30am, Margaret and Gillian had stayed all night with Mum and Margaret told Gillian at 8am to go home and get some sleep, I told Margaret to go and do the same I would take over, my niece Tracey arrived around 11:30am and she took over from me while I went down to the hospital shop and had a cigarette, on my return to Mum's room Tracey commented on Mum's breathing I said yes she has been doing that since your Mum (Margaret) left, Billy, Tracey's husband came up and then Gillian came back at 1:40pm Tracey and Billy then went down to the cafe for some lunch, myself and my sister Gillian where in Mum's room when Mum's breathing got rapidly worse, I went and called for the nurse, she came in and said yes Mum was ready to let go, I rang my sister Margaret and I rushed to the hospital Cafe to find my niece Tracey and her husband Billy but didn't see them so rushed back to the ward as I walked in Gillian told me it was too late I broke down in floods of tears I couldn't believe it had happened so quickly, in those few minutes it took to go down and back up in the lift Mum had gone, a couple of moments later Tracey and Billy came back followed by Margaret, we all wanted to be with her when she passed away but at the end only Gillian was there, I don't know about anyone else but I felt as though I had let Mum down by not being there to hold her hand as she took her last breath, my Mum was not just my Mum she was my Best Friend, I will love you Mum and cherish our time together on this earth til the end of time when I arrived home from the hospital I went up to my room and sat on the bed in the darkened room, I was the only person in the house, and as I sat crying I heard a child's voice say wheres Granny, I thought it was my daughter Rach with her son Joel, I listened out for her to shout Mum where are you but she didn't, then I heard the same voice call out Granny, I stood up and went onto the landing and listened, there was still no one in the house except me, I believe the voice was that of my baby boy who passed away when he was two, he had come to find his Granny and escort her to a place where only peace and happiness exist, a place where Mum will be forever happy
